EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE GERALD T.

GIBBONS

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of the

passing of Gerald Gibbons, beloved husband of Marie for forty-eight years, devoted father of

1-3

Gerald, Thomas and wife Terrie, and devoted grandfather of Sarah and Thomas; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Gerald Gibbons was born and raised in Warwick, Rhode Island. He

1-5

graduated from Aldrich High School in 1952 and attended extension programs at Bryant College,

1-6

the University of Rhode Island and Northeastern University; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gibbons was elected to the Warwick City Council five times and was

1-8

voted Council President three times. In 1999, he succeeded Mayor Lincoln Chafee and became

1-9

Mayor of the City of Warwick; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, For seventeen years Gerald also served as the purchasing agent for the City

1-11

of Warwick where he brought accountability and integrity to the city's purchasing process; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Gerald was a devoted husband, loving father, and wonderful grandfather.

He enriched the lives of all who knew him and will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

1-14

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

1-15

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to the entire Gibbons family on

1-16

the passing of the Honorable Gerald T. Gibbons; and be it further

2-1

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-2

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Gibbons family.
