EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JAMES J. KENNEY | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of the |

passing of James J. (Jim) Kenney, a resident and well-respected citizen of Newport; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, Born in Newport to the late Martin A. and Mary (McMahon) Kenney, Jim |
1-4 |
was the devoted husband of the late Marie (Murphy) Kenney, the loving father of Sr. Margaret |
1-5 |
Kenney, SSJ, Marie Thompson, James J. Kenney, Jr., Martin Kenney, and Alice Hamilton and |
1-6 |
brother to Sr. Alice Kenney, SSJ, and the late Edward Kenney. Jim was the proud grandfather of |
1-7 |
twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Jim established strong ties to the community, graduating from De La Salle |
1-9 |
Academy in 1931, and going on to a long career as a machinist for the Newport Naval Torpedo |
1-10 |
Station; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Demonstrating a strong sense of civic duty, Jim became a longstanding |
1-12 |
member of the Newport Knights of Columbus and the Tennis Hall of Fame; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, The natural beauty and charm of Newport kept him on Aquidneck Island, |
1-14 |
which turned out to be the ideal place for Jim to indulge his love of tennis, the beach, and jazz |
1-15 |
music; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Even though we are diminished by this loss and mourn the passing of Jim, |
1-17 |
so must we celebrate the spirit, generosity, and courage with which he lived every day of his life; |
1-18 |
now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-20 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to those that knew and loved |
1-21 |
him, on the passing of James J. Kenney; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-2 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Sr. Margaret Kenney, SSJ, Marie Thompson, |

James J. Kenney, Jr., Martin Kenney, and Alice Hamilton. |
