RESPECTFULLY URGING THE POSTAL REGULATORY COMMISSION OF THE UNITED | |
STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO CONTINUE FUNDING OPERATIONS AT THE CENTRAL | |
FALLS POST OFFICE | |

     WHEREAS, Facing an insurmountable $3 million dollar deficit, cuts in state aid, and a |

loss of revenue from the Wyatt Detention Center, a Superior Court judge placed Central Falls in |
1-3 |
receivership in May of 2010; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Over the last year and a half, the people of Central Falls have endured |
1-5 |
extreme financial problems within their community, as well as reduction in numerous services; |
1-6 |
and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, In a community already facing hardship, with a population that is socio- |
1-8 |
economically challenged, residents and the community need additional resources in order to |
1-9 |
survive, not the potential loss of crucial aides to its recovery; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, The United States Postal Service is currently gathering information to |
1-11 |
determine the feasibility of keeping the Central Falls Post Office in operation even though in July |
1-12 |
of 2011, when the USPS closed its Valley Falls Branch, it listed the Central Falls Office as the |
1-13 |
alternative location for local customers; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, The Central Falls Post Office provides a staple service that is essential to the |
1-15 |
residents of Central Falls and surrounding communities; now, therefore be it |
1-16 |
     RESOLVED, The this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-17 |
Providence Plantations hereby urges the Postal Regulatory Commission of the United State Postal |
1-18 |
Service to adhere to previous assurances and continue to fund and operate the Central Falls Post |
1-19 |
Office; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That this House urges Rhode Island’s Congressional Delegation to take |
2-21 |
whatever steps necessary to support the continuation of operations at the Central Falls Post |
2-22 |
Office; and be it further |
2-23 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-24 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Postal Regulatory Commission of the |
2-25 |
United State Postal Service and the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation. |
