RELATING TO MILITARY AFFAIRS AND DEFENSE -- ORGANIZATION AND | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Chapter 30-2 of the General Laws entitled "Organization and Command of |

Military and Naval Forces" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |

     30-2-23. Authority to administer charitable contributions. – Notwithstanding any |
1-4 |
other provision of law, the office of adjutant general of Rhode Island, while acting in state duty |
1-5 |
status, is hereby authorized to administer monetary contributions from donors to charitable |
1-6 |
organizations for and on behalf of the Rhode Island National Guard that benefit state military |
1-7 |
programs including, but not limited to, the Rhode Island National Guard Family Relief Fund and |
1-8 |
other Rhode Island National Guard family readiness groups. In administering such contributions, |
1-9 |
the office of adjutant general shall only accept donations specifically made out to relevant |
1-10 |
charitable groups and not to any individual in the office of adjutant general, including the adjutant |
1-11 |
general personally. The office of adjutant general may not subtract any administrative costs in |
1-12 |
conveying the donations to the charitable groups. No member of the business office of adjutant |
1-13 |
general may solicit for donations from any individuals or companies doing business with the |
1-14 |
state. |

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
