RELATING TO MILITARY AFFAIRS AND DEFENSE - EXTENSION OF VETERANS'

BENEFITS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 30-17.1 of the General Laws entitled "Veterans' Affairs" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     30-17.1-6.1. Veterans' assistance coordinator. – (a) The director of the department of

human services shall appoint a coordinator in the division of veterans’ affairs to assist veterans in

1-5

the filing of claims applications, to assist widows of veterans with applications for widow’s

1-6

pension benefits, and to assist and coordinate the transportation of veterans in need of medical

1-7

care between the Providence veterans’ hospital and the veterans’ home.

     (b) The coordinator shall be a full-time state employee with compensation in the amount

1-9

of thirty-thousand dollars ($30,000) or more depending upon the qualifications of the individual

1-10

employed.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
