RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES - PROVIDENCE BUILDING CODE ENFORCEMENT | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-24.2 of the General Laws entitled "Minimum Housing |

Standards" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |

     45-24.2-7.1. City of Providence - Nonowner occupied real estate. – Any nonowner |
1-4 |
occupied residential dwelling house in the city of Providence, which has been found to have |
1-5 |
violated the minimum housing city ordinance, adopted pursuant to chapter 28-4.2, by a court of |
1-6 |
competent jurisdiction, shall be assessed the following additional fines and sanctions. For each |
1-7 |
court found violation, that has not been corrected within ninety (90) days of the court finding, an |
1-8 |
additional one hundred dollar ($100) fine per day shall be assessed until corrected. If the violation |
1-9 |
has not been corrected within six (6) months of its adjudication, the additional daily fee per |
1-10 |
violation shall increase to two hundred ($200) dollars. If the violation has not been corrected |
1-11 |
within one year of its adjudication, by operation of law, the violating land owner’s right, title and |
1-12 |
interest to the noncompliant residential dwelling shall be forfeited to the city of Providence. |

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
