RELATING TO FOOD AND DRUGS - RHODE ISLAND FOOD, DRUGS, AND COSMETICS

ACT

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 21-31 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Food, Drugs,

and Cosmetics Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     21-31-10.1. Genetically modified organism. -- Any food product derived in whole or in

part from a genetically modified organism must contain this information within the product’s

1-5

labeling.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require that any food product derived in whole or in part from a
