EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE

ROGER VALOIS

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of The

1-2

Honorable Roger Valois, a devoted husband to his wife, Estelle, a well-respected and lifelong

1-3

member of the Village of Manville, and a former member of the Rhode Island House of

1-4

Representatives; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, Son of the late Joseph and Blandine Valois, Roger Valois was a loyal and

1-6

hardworking man.  He had been employed as a mechanical contractor for Manville Services until

1-7

his retirement in 2009; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Mr. Valois is survived by his nine children, Denise

1-9

Plante, Madeleine Pierson, Claudette Valois, Judith Perron, Jacqueline Wiebe, Marcel Valois,

1-10

David Valois, Jean-Paul Valois, and Daniel Valois.  He was also the proud grandfather of

1-11

nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, was the brother of Ruth Valois and Louis

1-12

Valois, and the late Pauline Picard and Edouard Valois, and was the grandfather of the late

1-13

Nicolas Valois; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Valois was elected to the Rhode Island General Assembly, serving the

1-15

people of District 58-Lincoln/Smithfield in the House of Representatives from 1983 to 1989. 

1-16

Previously, he had served as a Lincoln Town Councilor for District 5-Manville and had been a

1-17

Volunteer and former Fire Warden of the Manville Fire Department; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, Always active in his community, Mr. Valois was a member of the Manville

1-19

Sportsmen's Club, the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E., and a member and Past-President of

1-20

the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. He also served our country in the United States Marine

2-1

Corps and was a communicant of St. James Church in Manville; and

2-2

     WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for the family of

2-3

Roger Valois.  He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a doting grandfather and great-

2-4

grandfather.  He enriched the lives of all who knew him and will be dearly missed in the

2-5

community; now, therefore be it

2-6

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-7

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest sympathies to the entire Valois Family on the

2-8

passing of The Honorable Roger Valois.  He will forever be remembered by this House of

2-9

Representatives and the people of Rhode Island for his commitment and service to his community

2-10

and our state; and be it further  

2-11

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-12

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Estelle Valois and Family.
