A N A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - MISCELLANEOUS RULES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-22 of the General Laws entitled "Miscellaneous Rules" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-22-28.1. Dogs prohibited from sitting on lap of operator of motor vehicle. -- It

shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle with a dog sitting in the lap of the

motor vehicle operator. Any person who violates any of the provisions of this section shall, upon

1-6

conviction, be subject to a fine of eighty-five dollars ($85.00); for a second conviction shall be

1-7

subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100); and for a third and subsequent convictions a

1-8

person shall be subject to a fine of one hundred twenty-five dollars ($125). All violations arising

1-9

out of this section shall be heard in the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
