CONGRATULATING THE GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA ON THE OCCASION OF ITS | |

     WHEREAS, The Girls Scouts organization was originally founded by Juliette Gordon |

Low on March 12th, 1912, under the belief “that all girls should be given the opportunity to |
1-3 |
develop physically, mentally, and spiritually”; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, From an initial membership of eighteen young girls, the organization now |
1-5 |
consists of 3.4 million members throughout the United States, including the United States |
1-6 |
territories, and in more than 90 countries through USA Girl Scouts Overseas; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, In 1950, the United States chartered the Congress Girl Scouts of the USA |
1-8 |
(GSUSA) as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Through membership in the World Association |
1-9 |
of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), GSUSA is part of a worldwide family of 10 million |
1-10 |
girls and adults in 145 countries; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent leadership development |
1-12 |
organization for girls and young women, encouraging them to discover their strengths, foster their |
1-13 |
entrepreneurial skills, connect with others, treat their peers with respect, and take action by |
1-14 |
serving their communities, their country, and the world; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, In Rhode Island, the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, Inc. includes 11,900 girls |
1-16 |
in grades K-12 and 3,400 adults from across the state; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, As the Girl Scouts organization celebrates its centennial anniversary, it |
1-18 |
continues to uphold its mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who strive to |
1-19 |
make the world a better place; now, therefore be it |
2-20 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-21 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Girl Scouts of America on the occasion of its |
2-22 |
100th Anniversary Year celebration. We furthermore recognize the entire membership for their |
2-23 |
dedicated service to our state and to our country; and be it further |
2-24 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-25 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Nicole Kelly, Girl Scouts of Rhode Island. |
