J O I N T R E S O L U T I O N | |
CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY AND HAVE | |
OVERSIGHT ON MUNICIPALLY RUN PENSION SYSTEMS | |

     RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission to be known as the “Municipally Run |

Pension Systems Task Force” be and the same is hereby created consisting of ten (10) members: |

five (5) of whom shall be members of the house of representatives, three (3) to be appointed by |
1-4 |
the speaker of the house and two (2) by the house minority leader, and five (5) of whom shall be |
1-5 |
members of the senate, three (3) to be appointed by the president of the senate and two (2) by the |
1-6 |
senate minority leader. |
1-7 |
     The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study, and develop a |
1-8 |
strategy for maintaining the solvency and integrity of municipally run pension systems. |
1-9 |
     The study shall include, but not be limited to: |
1-10 |
     (1) Developing a reasonable plan of necessary statutory changes; and |
1-11 |
     (2) Determining ways to promote standards and regulatory structures that are compatible |
1-12 |
with the solvency and integrity of such systems. |
1-13 |
     Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at |
1-14 |
the call of the speaker of the house and organize and shall select a chairperson. Vacancies in said |
1-15 |
commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. |
1-16 |
     The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. |
1-17 |
     All departments and agencies of the state, shall furnish such advice and information, |
1-18 |
documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
1-19 |
desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution, and the commission shall |
1-20 |
have the power of subpoena. |
2-1 |
     The joint committee on legislative services is hereby authorized and directed to provide |
2-2 |
suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further. |
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
2-4 |
general assembly no later than May 31, 2012, and said commission shall expire on July 30, 2012. |
