EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF BRUCE LANG | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Bruce |

Lang, a well-respected and astute businessman and the founder of Operation Clean Government; |
1-3 |
and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lang attended the University of Rhode Island, where he joined the |
1-5 |
ROTC program. He subsequently served in the United States Army and was one of the last |
1-6 |
Americans to leave Cuba in 1958. He returned to the states and continued his education, earning |
1-7 |
an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1961; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Entering a training program at CBS News opened myriad doors and |
1-9 |
opportunities for Mr. Lang. He not only accrued invaluable knowledge of the industry, but also |
1-10 |
collected enviable lifelong memories and experiences, including meeting the Beatles during their |
1-11 |
appearance on the Ed Sullivan show and posing for camera shots with celebrities such as Sammy |
1-12 |
Davis, Jr.; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Lang returned to Rhode Island and worked for his family’s |
1-14 |
business, and later, for the state Department of Economic Development as the head of the Rhode |
1-15 |
Island Partnership for Science & Technology; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, In 1993, Mr. Lang co-founded Operation Clean Government, a government |
1-17 |
watchdog group supporting clean and honest state government. In addition, he was President of |
1-18 |
the Rhode Island Separation of Powers Committee, and served on numerous business, |
1-19 |
community, and government boards and organizations; and |
1-20 |
     WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Lang was the recipient of the Governor’s Science and |
1-21 |
Technology Award and had been a finalist for the entrepreneur of the year award in 1990. |

Previous to his passing, Mr. Lang had been working at Lang Naturals, a “health-benefit driven” |
2-2 |
company founded by his son; and |
2-3 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lang is survived by his wife, Lois, his two sons, David and Richard, |
2-4 |
and his sister Joyce. He was also the proud grandfather of one grandchild; and |
2-5 |
     WHEREAS, A hard-working man who possessed an abundance of business acumen, Mr. |
2-6 |
Lang challenged himself and our state to become involved and seek opportunities to be the very |
2-7 |
best; now, therefore be it |
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-9 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Bruce Lang; |
2-10 |
and be it further |
2-11 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-12 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lois Lang and Family. |
