CONGRATULATING JAMES (JIM) BARON ON BEING NAMED HEAD COACH AT | |
CANISIUS COLLEGE | |

     WHEREAS, Jim Baron has been named the Head Basketball Coach at Canisius College, |

after leading the University of Rhode Island Basketball team for the past eleven years, posting a |
1-3 |
winning 184-165 record, and making five NIT appearances; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Jim’s steady hand has helped to guide many scholar-athletes through the |
1-5 |
difficulties of playing a Division One college sport, balancing the demands of a long basketball |
1-6 |
season with the rigors of a demanding academic curriculum; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Recognized as a three-time Atlantic-10 Conference Coach of the Year at the |
1-8 |
University of Rhode Island, Jim enjoyed six twenty win seasons and a 2010 final four NIT berth. |
1-9 |
He will be sorely missed by the University, and the many fans of the Rams basketball team |
1-10 |
throughout the State of Rhode Island; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Seizing upon the opportunity to bring in a coach whose basketball intellect |
1-12 |
is well known throughout the country, Canisius College has wisely selected Jim to rebuild the |
1-13 |
Golden Griffin basketball program; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, Jim will be entering familiar territory, having played for and coached at |
1-15 |
nearby St. Bonaventure University, and bringing a proven track record of developing young men |
1-16 |
while building winning programs; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Jim has been indispensable to the growth of the men’s basketball program at |
1-18 |
the University of Rhode Island, overseeing a program that has brought pride and strengthened the |
1-19 |
community of alumni, fans and students; now, therefore be it |
2-20 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-21 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Jim Baron on being named Head Coach at Canisius |
2-22 |
College and thanks him for all that he has done for the University of Rhode Island. His work has |
2-23 |
brought distinction to the University and helped better the lives of the athletes at the school; and |
2-24 |
be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-26 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. James Baron. |
