H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING BOY SCOUT TROOP 10, WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND, FOR ITS

EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP IN PREPARING YOUNG MEN FOR THE RANK OF EAGLE

SCOUT

     WHEREAS, At a time when this nation's youth face difficult challenges, the Boy Scouts

of America (BSA) is one of our finest assets, providing young men with an educational program

1-3

that contributes significantly to their character development, citizenship training, and improved

1-4

mental and physical fitness; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this

1-6

country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of

1-7

America knows that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and

1-8

productive society; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, One hundred years after Arthur Eldred of New York earned this nation's

1-10

first Eagle Scout Award, new, independent research demonstrates the significant, positive impact

1-11

Eagle Scouts have on society every day.  Since the Eagle Scout rank was first awarded in 1912,

1-12

more than 2 million young men have achieved the Boy Scouts of America's highest honor; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, After considerable effort and diligent preparation, nine scouts from Troop

1-14

10, Westerly, Rhode Island, have recently joined the prestigious Eagle Court of Honor; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, Through their hard work and perseverance, and through the exceptional

1-16

support provided by their troop leaders and peers, these scouts have joined other high achievers

1-17

who are Eagle Scouts, including astronauts, political and industry leaders, artists, scientists, and

1-18

athletes; and

1-19

     WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 10 has earned recognition and praise for its ability to

1-20

nurture the aspirations of its troop members, sustain their interests, and move them to successful

2-1

completion of their goals; and

2-2

     WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle reflects positively on each individual Boy Scout,

2-3

as well as on the many people who contribute to his efforts; now, therefore be it

2-4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-5

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes Troop 10, Westerly, Rhode Island, for its hard work in

2-6

preparing young men for the rank of Eagle Scout, and extends our congratulations to the

2-7

following nine Eagle Scouts: Timothy Lawton, Thomas Gibson, Andrew Hall, Cody Edwards,

2-8

Jonathan Balko, Stephen Taylor, Jared Gulluscio, William Sposato, and Joshua Fleck; and be it

2-9

     RESOLVED, That we congratulate Scoutmaster Fran Fleck of Troop 10 and his

2-11

assistants for their tremendous success in supporting the Boy Scouts of America and in building

2-12

the next generation of leaders in Rhode Island; and be it further

2-13

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-14

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Scoutmaster Fran Fleck and the Eagle Scouts of

2-15

Troop 10, Westerly: Timothy Lawton, Thomas Gibson, Andrew Hall, Cody Edwards, Jonathan

2-16

Balko, Stephen Taylor, Jared Gulluscio, William Sposato, and Joshua Fleck.
