RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING DEREK JAMES FRENCH UPON ACHIEVING | |
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America has a long and impressive history of preparing |
1-2 |
young men to assume responsibility in their communities. The Boy Scouts is one of the largest |
1-3 |
youth organizations in the United States. The rank of Eagle Scout, which was first introduced in |
1-4 |
1911, is the highest a young man can attain in the Boy Scouts, and the title of Eagle Scout is held |
1-5 |
for life; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Derek James French is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious |
1-7 |
achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Derek has distinguished himself through his continued performance of |
1-9 |
active service in Scouting. He has learned important lifelong skills and values while earning |
1-10 |
numerous merit badges and serving in several leadership positions; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Derek James French of Troop 8, Cranston, Rhode Island, has completed the |
1-12 |
arduous and demanding requirements necessary to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. As the |
1-13 |
highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward obtaining the rank of Eagle, |
1-14 |
Derek planned, developed, and carried out an extensive Eagle Scout service project, which |
1-15 |
consisted of organizing a collection drive for Saint Mary’s Home for Children, an organization |
1-16 |
that provides safe homes for displaced children. Derek placed collection boxes at locations |
1-17 |
within the city, such as Walgreens and local libraries, and collected a variety of items. Derek |
1-18 |
devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project for the benefit |
1-19 |
of the organization; and |
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, Derek also finds the time and energy to be an exemplary student. His love |
2-21 |
of wrestling has involved him in several wrestling teams during his school years; and |
2-22 |
     WHEREAS, Currently a senior at Cranston High School West, Derek is a National |
2-23 |
Honor Society Inductee. After graduation, Derek plans to attend Salve Regina University to |
2-24 |
pursue a degree in nursing and his dream of becoming a United States Navy Seal Medic; and |
2-25 |
     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to |
2-26 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Eagle Scout Derek James French |
2-27 |
exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to |
2-28 |
be; now, therefore be it |
2-29 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-30 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Derek James French for all he has done to attain the rank of |
2-31 |
Eagle within the Boy Scouts of America; and be it further |
2-32 |
     RESOLVED, That this House hereby extends its deepest appreciation to Derek for his |
2-33 |
untiring service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication |
2-34 |
by which the youth of this great state may follow. We send our very best wishes to Derek James |
2-35 |
French and wish him good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further |
2-36 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-37 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Derek James French. |
