RECOGNIZING MAY 6TH-12TH AS "NATIONAL NURSES WEEK" | |

     WHEREAS, The nearly 3.1 million registered nurses in the United States comprise our |
1-2 |
nation's largest health care profession; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, The depth and breadth of the registered nursing profession meet the |
1-4 |
different and emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; |
1-5 |
and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, The American Nurses Association, as the voice for the registered nurses of |
1-7 |
this country, is working to chart a new course for a healthy nation that relies on increasing |
1-8 |
delivery of primary and preventive health care; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, A renewed emphasis on primary and preventive health care will require the |
1-10 |
better utilization of all of our nation's registered nursing resources; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Professional nursing has been demonstrated to be an indispensable |
1-12 |
component in the safety and quality of care of hospitalized patients; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, The demand for registered nursing services will be greater than ever |
1-14 |
because of the aging of the American population, the continuing expansion of life-sustaining |
1-15 |
technology, and the explosive growth of home health care services; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, More qualified registered nurses will be needed in the future to meet the |
1-17 |
increasingly complex needs of health care consumers in this community; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, The cost-effective, safe, and quality health care services provided by |
1-19 |
registered nurses will be an ever more important component of the U.S. health care delivery |
1-20 |
system in the future; now, therefore be it |
2-21 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-22 |
Providence Plantations hereby joins the Rhode Island State Nurses Association and the American |
2-23 |
Nurses Association in recognizing the week of May 6th through May 12th of 2012 as “National |
2-24 |
Nurses Week” in celebration of the ways in which registered nurses strive to provide safe and |
2-25 |
high-quality patient care and map out improvements to our health care system; and be it further |
2-26 |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby urges the residents of this state |
2-27 |
to join us in honoring the registered nurses who care for all of us. We furthermore celebrate |
2-28 |
registered nursing's accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system and extend |
2-29 |
our appreciation for the nation's registered nurses not just during this week, but also at every |
2-30 |
opportunity throughout the year; and be it further |
2-31 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-32 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. |
