PROCLAIMING THURSDAY, MAY 10, 2012, TO BE "YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR DAY" IN | |
THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, The MET is a network of six small, public high schools located in |

Providence and Newport, that share and strive for the core values of high standards and strong |

family engagement; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, The MET’s individualized learning approach has proven successful in |
1-5 |
unlocking a passion for learning in its students and its schools have been a tremendous asset to |
1-6 |
Rhode Island’s educational community as an inspiration to innovation in education; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, As listeners, teachers, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors, the |
1-8 |
MET School fills many crucial roles for its students; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, The MET empowers students to take charge of their learning and to become |
1-10 |
responsible citizens and life-long learners; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Thomas Edison once said, "I never perfected an invention that I did not |
1-12 |
think about in terms of the service it might give others... I find out what the world needs, then I |
1-13 |
proceed to invent." The MET School not only inspires its students to think in these terms, but also |
1-14 |
embodies this very philosophy; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, On May 10th of 2012, The MET School’s Center for Innovation and |
1-16 |
Entrepreneurship will officially open its doors to celebrate Young Entrepreneur Day; now, |
1-17 |
therefore be it |
1-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-19 |
Providence Plantations hereby proclaims May 10, 2012, to be “Young Entrepreneur Day” in our |
1-20 |
state. We furthermore join the MET School in urging all the citizens of the state to take the time |
2-1 |
to recognize and acknowledge the impact of innovative education on our lives and on the futures |
2-2 |
of children; and be it further |
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-4 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The MET School in Providence. |
