CONGRATULATING JESSICA A. CARRIGNAN BEING NAMED SALUTATORIAN OF

THE LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2012

     WHEREAS, Jessica A. Carrignan, the daughter of Joseph and Danielle Carrignan of

Lincoln, distinguished herself not only in being named second in her class, but also by the

1-3

profundity of honors, awards, athletic participation, and community service she accumulated

1-4

during her high school career; and

1-5

      WHEREAS, Some of Jessica’s achievements include serving as president of the

1-6

National Honor Society, being Student Council secretary for two years, participating in Life

1-7

Society, and being a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. She was also the recipient of the

1-8

Yale Book Award for 2011 and a National Merit Commended Scholar; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, In addition to her class studies and academic affiliations, Jessica played

1-10

varsity basketball for four years, winning the Academic All State award for basketball in 2012,

1-11

and served as a camp counselor and a leader and instructor for the Youth Basketball Camp; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Jessica has also been active in the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island for nine

1-13

years, earning her the Silver Award; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, In the fall, Jessica will be attending the University of Maryland in College

1-15

Park, where she will major in kinesiology and minor in psychology. She hopes to pursue a career

1-16

in sports, coaching, and physical therapy; and

1-17

     WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure and other influences and stressors, there are those

1-18

young people who rise above the rest. Graduation day is a time to celebrate these achievements

1-19

and imagine the possibilities for futures filled with new beginnings and unexplored opportunities;

1-20

and

     WHEREAS, Jessica Carrignan is a first-rate young woman whose accomplishments are

2-2

remarkable and who is truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

2-3

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-4

Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates Jessica A. Carrignan on being named

2-5

Salutatorian of the Lincoln High School Class of 2012. The entire membership extends best

2-6

wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further

2-7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jessica A. Carrignan.
