HOUSE RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE ONE-YEAR | |
ANNIVERSARY OF THE "SCRIPT YOUR FUTURE" CAMPAIGN IN RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, Having a chronic disease, such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, high blood |

pressure, or high cholesterol, can take away chances for a long and full life if one does not take |
1-3 |
prescription medicines as prescribed by a doctor; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Forty-five percent of Americans have a chronic disease that requires a |
1-5 |
prescription medication. Three out of four patients with a chronic condition do not take their |
1-6 |
prescription as directed, and one out of three prescriptions are never filled; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, More than 33 percent of medication-related hospital admissions are linked |
1-8 |
to poor adherence. Non-adherence costs Americans $290 billion annually. The public, policy |
1-9 |
makers, and healthcare professionals should be informed about the importance of taking |
1-10 |
medications as directed; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, The National Consumers League has joined with Rhode Island’s |
1-12 |
pharmacists, nurses, physicians, patient and consumer advocates, health systems, policy makers, |
1-13 |
and universities and schools of learning in order to launch the “Script Your Future” Medication |
1-14 |
Adherence Campaign as the first public-private partnership to address the growing problem of |
1-15 |
poor medication adherence in our state and beyond; now, therefore be it |
1-16 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-17 |
Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and celebrates the one-year anniversary of the “Script |
1-18 |
Your Future” campaign in Rhode Island; and be it further |
1-19 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
1-20 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sally Greenberg, Executive Director, National |

Consumers League. |
