CONGRATULATING GABRIELLA K. COTTIERO ON BEING NAMED THE | |
CUMBERLAND HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2012 SALUTATORIAN | |

     WHEREAS, Gabriella K. Cottiero, the daughter of Richard Cottiero and Patricia Kearney |

of Lincoln, Rhode Island, has distinguished herself not only by achieving the second highest |
1-3 |
grade point average of 4.055 at Cumberland High School, but also by the many honors and |
1-4 |
awards she has earned; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Some of Gabriella’s achievements include receiving the Yale Book Award |
1-6 |
and the President's Award for Educational Excellence. She is also a National Merit Scholarship |
1-7 |
semi-finalist and a United States Presidential Scholars nominee; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, As a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor |
1-9 |
Society, Gabriella has demonstrated her intellectual acumen. In addition, she has contributed to |
1-10 |
her school by serving as co-president of the World Language Club, and in her senior year, as a |
1-11 |
member of the Math Team and captain of the Junior Varsity Tennis Team; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to all of her academic accomplishments, Gabriella found time to |
1-13 |
learn how to play the piano, which she has enjoyed doing since she was nine years old, and to |
1-14 |
ride horses competitively, which she has done for nine years both individually and on an |
1-15 |
Interscholastic Team. She has also volunteered at the Lend-A-Hand Therapeutic Riding Center; |
1-16 |
and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, In the fall, Gabriella will attend Carnegie Mellon University and major in |
1-18 |
chemistry. She plans to pursue a career as a biochemist, preferably as a researcher; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Amid peer pressure and other influences and stressors, there are those |
2-20 |
     young people who rise above the rest. Graduation day is a time to celebrate these achievements |
2-21 |
and imagine the possibilities for futures filled with new beginnings and unexplored opportunities. |

Gabriella’s accomplishments are remarkable and she is truly deserving of our recognition and |
2-23 |
praise; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-25 |
     Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates Gabriella K. Cottiero on being named |
2-26 |
Salutatorian of the Cumberland High School Class of 2012. The entire membership extends best |
2-27 |
wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further |
2-28 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-29 |
     transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Gabriella K. Cottiero. |
