CONGRATULATING OLIVIA CULPO ON BEING CROWNED MISS USA

     WHEREAS, Accomplished young women from across the United States participated in

the 2012 Miss USA pageant. Contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia

1-3

competed in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and interview question; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island’s own homegrown beauty, Olivia Culpo, was named Miss

1-5

USA and life for her will surely never be the same. She is the daughter of Peter and Susan Culpo

1-6

of Cranston and she is the first Rhode Islander to ever win the contest; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Olivia is triple-blessed. She is not only a celebrated beauty, but she is also

1-8

an accomplished cellist who has performed at Boston Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall in New

1-9

York City and participated in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Rhode Island

1-10

Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble, the Bay View Orchestra, and the Rhode Island All-State

1-11

Orchestra. She is also a 2010 graduate of Bay View Academy and on the Dean's List in her

1-12

sophomore year at Boston University; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Olivia will be taking this next year off from her studies at BU to tackle her

1-14

duties as Miss USA. During her reign, she will work toward raising awareness and fostering

1-15

research into the battle against breast and ovarian cancer; now, therefore be it

1-16

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

1-17

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Olivia Culpo on being crowned Miss USA. We wish

1-18

her happiness, good health, and best of luck at the 61st Miss Universe Pageant; and be it further 

2-19

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-20

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Miss Olivia Culpo.
