H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N | |
CONGRATULATING "PETE THE BARBER" ON HIS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS A
PAWTUCKET BARBER | |
|
      |
|
      |
Introduced By: Representatives E Coderre, San Bento, Johnston, O`Neill, and Messier
     Date Introduced: June 11, 2012
Referred To: House read and passed
1-1 |
WHEREAS, The dictionary defines a barber as one whose business is cutting and |
1-2 |
dressing hair, and shaving and trimming beards. Robert “Pete” Gagnon, also known as “Pete the |
1-3 |
Barber,” has kept his customers returning month after month, and year after year, by offering a |
1-4 |
much more interesting experience; and |
1-5 |
WHEREAS, Most who enter Pete’s barber shop are greeted as longtime friends and |
1-6 |
entertained with witty banter and, oftentimes, interesting debates. From religion to politics, the |
1-7 |
ills, thrills, and mysteries of the world are unraveled and regularly solved or resolved on any |
1-8 |
given afternoon; and |
1-9 |
WHEREAS, While Pete is an old-fashioned barber who cuts hair without flourishes, gels, |
1-10 |
or tints, he does know that a good hair cut is the key. With the standard barbershop accoutrements |
1-11 |
and his well-honed barbering skills, Pete is still a bustling barber at an age when most people are |
1-12 |
retired and his business is thriving when many others have shut their doors; and |
1-13 |
WHEREAS, The triumph and longevity of Pete’s Barbershop are also indicative of a |
1-14 |
successful symbiotic relationship that can form between a neighborhood and a small business. If |
1-15 |
there is a local charitable cause, Pete is the first to offer help. When his shop is closed on |
1-16 |
Mondays, chances are good that Pete is donating his services at a nearby nursing home or |
1-17 |
hospital; and |
1-18 |
WHEREAS, A shave and a haircut may no longer cost “two bits” but at Pete the |
1-19 |
Barber’s, a haircut is still a great deal; now, therefore be it |
2-20 |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-21 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Robert Gagnon on the 50th Anniversary of being |
2-22 |
Pawtucket’s very own “Pete the Barber.” We furthermore wish him many more years of great |
2-23 |
cutting, good health, and much success; and be it further |
2-24 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-25 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Robert “Pete” Gagnon. |
