HONORING REPRESENTATIVE JOHN A. SAVAGE FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE | |
OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, It is with regret and sadness that we bid adieu to our friend and colleague |

The Honorable John Savage, who is retiring from the General Assembly after more than thirteen |
1-3 |
years of devoted service in the Rhode Island House of Representatives; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, A graduate of LaSalle Academy, Representative Savage earned his A.B. |
1-5 |
from Providence College in 1966. He returned to PC to attain his Master’s degree in Education in |
1-6 |
1973; and |
1-7 |
      WHEREAS, Representative Savage retired from his position as a Principal with the East |
1-8 |
Providence School Department, and in June of 1999, was sworn in as the Rhode Island |
1-9 |
Representative from what is now District 65; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Having earned the respect of his peers for his diligence and dedication, |
1-11 |
Representative Savage serves as the Deputy Minority Leader and is also a member of the House |
1-12 |
Committee on Finance, the House Committee on Rules, and the House Committee on Labor; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, As an advocate for his constituents and educational issues, Representative |
1-14 |
Savage has co-sponsored legislation to require compulsory school attendance until the age of 18, |
1-15 |
introduced legislation which provided for the statewide transportation of students with special |
1-16 |
needs, and had introduced legislation that would reduce rubbish disposal costs for cities and |
1-17 |
towns as they increased the amount of their recyclable waste; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Representative Savage’s life beyond the State House is also tremendously |
1-19 |
full and rewarding. He is married to his wife, Katherine, and is the proud father of one son, John. |

He is active with numerous local and professional organizations, including the Rhode Island and |

National Principal Associations, serves on the Board of Directors for the East Providence Mental |
2-2 |
Health, Inc. and the Riverside Family Center, Inc., is a member of the Asset/Liability |
2-3 |
Management Committee, the Providence Teachers/Community Credit Union, and the Department |
2-4 |
of Health, Diabetes, and Children Committee; and |
2-5 |
     WHEREAS, Representative Savage’s tireless devotion to the citizens of the Ocean State |
2-6 |
has earned him our unqualified admiration and respect, and he will most assuredly be missed; |
2-7 |
now, therefore be it |
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-9 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Representative John Savage as he concludes his service to |
2-10 |
the Rhode Island General Assembly and the people of this state. We thank him for a job well |
2-11 |
done, and extend our sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success; and be it |
2-12 |
further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-14 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable John A. Savage. |
