CONGRATULATING CLIFF CARDI ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, In a society that grows increasingly fragmented and too often tempts its |

youth to make selfish and unwise decisions, it is a special young man who chooses to dedicate |
1-3 |
himself to the service of others by practicing the noble ideals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law; |
1-4 |
and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure and other influences, there are those teenagers who |
1-6 |
rise above the rest. Cliff Cardi is just such a first-rate youth, and his accomplishments are truly |
1-7 |
deserving of our recognition; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Cliff began his journey towards the rank of Eagle shortly after joining Boy |
1-9 |
Scout Troop 1, East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Using his skills and abilities for the common |
1-10 |
good, he has earned the required merit badges and has excelled in leadership positions, including |
1-11 |
Quartermaster and Patrol Leader. Cliff has also especially enjoyed his Allagash River Maine |
1-12 |
High Adventure, one of the most challenging endeavors performed by any scout. Through |
1-13 |
perseverance and determination, he has attained the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle, by |
1-14 |
meeting all the extensive requirements; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Cliff’s Eagle Project was to take on the challenge of organizing and leading |
1-16 |
fellow scouts in a campaign to collect children’s used books to benefit the less fortunate in Rhode |
1-17 |
Island. This book drive consisted of delivering flyers, collecting books, and distributing them. |
1-18 |
The response was overwhelming, with more than 1,300 children’s books collected. The books |
1-19 |
were donated to homeless shelters in Providence, including a community center in Oakland |
1-20 |
Beach, and to a deserving inner-city elementary school in South Providence. Eagle Scout Cliff |
1-21 |
Cardi and his fellow scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying |
2-1 |
out his project for the enjoyment and benefit of the children in the community; and |
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Also excelling in his academics, Cliff graduated from Providence Country |
2-3 |
Day School in 2011. He was a member of the Cross Country Team and received the school’s |
2-4 |
music and biology awards. Active in the music department, he studied the cello for ten years and |
2-5 |
earned a seat in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Cliff is currently a freshman at |
2-6 |
Oxford College of Emory University, located in Georgia, where he is studying pre-med; and |
2-7 |
     WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout requires considerable perseverance. This |
2-8 |
significant achievement is a landmark very few men will ever reach in their lives. Cliff Cardi |
2-9 |
upholds the dignity and virtue of a true Eagle and has proven himself to be worthy of this high |
2-10 |
rank; now, therefore be it |
2-11 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-12 |
hereby honors Cliff Cardi with pride and deep appreciation for his many outstanding |
2-13 |
accomplishments. We encourage him to grow, mature, and continue to be the kind of determined |
2-14 |
and dedicated young man America needs; and be it further |
2-15 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-16 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Cliff Cardi. |
