S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N | |
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ROBERT CARLSON UPON ACHIEVING | |
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout badge is the pinnacle of achievement within the Boy |
1-2 |
Scouts of America. It is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all the |
1-3 |
young men who enter scouting; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Robert Carlson is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious |
1-5 |
achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Robert’s scouting journey culminated on February 28, 2011, when he |
1-7 |
earned the rank of Eagle. During his journey, he amassed special awards, including Order of the |
1-8 |
Arrow, and spent a week at White Stag Leadership Training. He also participated in the Maine |
1-9 |
High Adventure Allagash Canoe Trip and the Florida Base Trip; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Robert began his scouting career in 1999 as a Cub Scout and advanced |
1-11 |
through the ranks, ultimately earning the highest award, the Arrow of Light. He continued on to |
1-12 |
Boy Scouts, joining Troop 1, East Greenwich, Rhode Island, in April, 2004; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Robert earned twenty-eight |
1-14 |
merit badges, seven more than the required twenty-one, in addition to serving in several |
1-15 |
leadership positions, including Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, |
1-16 |
Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward |
1-18 |
obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout, Robert Carlson planned, developed, and carried out an |
1-19 |
extensive Eagle Scout service project. He organized a personal hygiene product drive to benefit |
1-20 |
Crossroads Rhode Island located in Providence, in which he and his fellow scouts distributed |
2-1 |
collection boxes to local schools, businesses, and public offices, and sent out flyers for the project |
2-2 |
on school email list servers. Robert and his team of scouts from Troop 1 collected the donated |
2-3 |
items, sorted through them, and made boxes to deliver to Crossroads. The sheer number of items |
2-4 |
collected overwhelmed the shelter; and |
2-5 |
     WHEREAS, Graduating in June 2011 from East Greenwich High School, Robert was an |
2-6 |
active member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. He was a member of the |
2-7 |
volleyball and cross country teams, as well as the Avenger Band, which marched in the Inaugural |
2-8 |
Parade of President Barack Obama in January of 2009; and |
2-9 |
     WHEREAS, Taking the summer off to work on the Block Island Ferry, Eagle Scout |
2-10 |
Robert Carlson is now attending Northeastern University and pursuing a degree as a mechanical |
2-11 |
engineer; and |
2-12 |
     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to |
2-13 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Robert Carlson exemplifies everything an |
2-14 |
Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, therefore be it |
2-15 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-16 |
hereby honors Robert Carlson for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle within the Boy |
2-17 |
Scouts of America; and be it further |
2-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate extends our deepest appreciation to Robert Carlson for his |
2-19 |
untiring service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication |
2-20 |
by which youth of this great state may follow. We proffer our very best wishes for good health |
2-21 |
and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further |
2-22 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-23 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Robert Carlson. |
