S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

THANKING CHARLES M. MORAN FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE AS THE LONGEST-

SERVING CHAIRMAN OF THE TIVERTON DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE

     WHEREAS, Charles M. Moran, known as Charlie to his many friends, attained the honor

and distinction of being the longest-serving Chairman in the history of the Tiverton Democratic

1-3

Town Committee (TDTC) and, in recent memory, the longest sitting Chairman of all city and

1-4

town chairs throughout the state; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, In honor of this accomplishment and his myriad contributions and efforts on

1-6

behalf of the committee and the people of the Town of Tiverton, Charlie was recently bestowed

1-7

with the honorary title of chairman emeritus. In addition, for the 2011-2013 term, he was

1-8

appointed to the current executive committee; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, Established as a nonprofit association whose purpose is to “uphold and

1-10

advance the principles of the Democratic Party within the Town of Tiverton,” the TDTC

1-11

“believes in a community-based and inclusive approach to government”; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, The democratic voters in the Town of Tiverton elect citizens, from all walks

1-13

of life, to represent them on the Tiverton Democratic Town Committee.  In 1976, they made the

1-14

wise choice of electing Charlie to his first term on the committee; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of Tiverton democrats, Charlie was elected

1-16

Chair of the TDTC in 1994, a position he held until 2011. At the time, the committee’s role in the

1-17

community had been waning, but with Charlie’s enthusiasm and dedication, the resurgence

1-18

began; and 

1-19

     WHEREAS, Today, the TDTC is involved in a panoply of community events, as well as

1-20

supporting “strong economic and community development…” and working diligently to

2-1

“improve Tiverton’s quality of life and sense of community”; and

2-2

     WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the TDTC, Charlie has also served on the

2-3

Executive Board of the RI Association of Democratic City and Town Chairs, the District

2-4

Committee for State Representative, as a member of the Tiverton Planning Board for twenty-five

2-5

years, as a former member of the Tiverton Personnel Board, a current alternate member of the

2-6

Tiverton Board of Canvassers, a current member of Congressman David Cicilline’s

2-7

Congressional Advisory Committee, and on numerous campaigns for national Democratic

2-8

candidates; and  

2-9

     WHEREAS, Charlie Moran is an enormously well-respected members of the TDTC and

2-10

the community. He has generously and consistently contributed his time and energies to the

2-11

betterment of the people of Tiverton and he is eminently deserving of our praise and gratitude;

2-12

now, therefore be it

2-13

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-14

hereby congratulates Charles Moran. We furthermore commend him for his service to the Town

2-15

of Tiverton and wish him much success in all his endeavors; and be it further

2-16

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-17

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Charles M. Moran.
