RELATING TO DELINQUENT AND DEPENDENT CHILDREN - PROCEEDINGS IN

FAMILY COURT

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 14-1-30.2 of the General Laws in Chapter 14-1 entitled

"Proceedings in Family Court" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     14-1-30.2. Foster parents -Notice of court proceedings. Foster parents -- Court

1-4

proceedings. -- The department of children, youth and families shall provide notice to foster

1-5

parents, pre-adoptive parents or relatives providing care for a child of any review or hearing to be

1-6

held with respect to a child in the care of the department. The foster parents, pre-adoptive parents

1-7

or relatives providing care for a child may shall have the right to attend the hearing and file with

1-8

the court a report, either written or oral, for the purpose of conveying to the court information

1-9

relating to the best interest of the child. Upon the order of disposition of a child, foster parents,

1-10

pre-adoptive parents, or relatives providing care for a child shall be notified verbally and in

1-11

writing of the results of that order. Nothing in this section shall be construed to give the foster

1-12

parents, pre-adoptive parents or relatives providing care for a child legal standing as a party to the

1-13

petition.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would give foster parents, pre-adoptive parents or relatives providing care for a

child the right to attend hearings with respect to the child, file reports with the court and receive

verbal and written notice of the results of the hearing.
