CONGRATULATING JESSICA COOK ON HER ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE CYBER | |
FOUNDATION COMPETITION | |

     WHEREAS, The Cyber Foundation Competition is a national online contest to identify |

talented high school students with the skills to pursue advanced education and job opportunities |
1-3 |
in the cyber security field, one of the most in-demand career fields; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, These young people combine a passion for technology with extraordinary |
1-5 |
talent. This competition is a fun and innovative way to help meet the urgent need to develop |
1-6 |
young talent in the cyber security field, which remains woefully lacking in top professionals; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, The Cyber Foundation is a perfect way to engage our students in cyber |
1-8 |
security training. Some of the state’s finest high-tech high school students were winners of the |
1-9 |
Rhode Island Cyber Foundations Competition; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, More than 300 students signed up for Rhode Island’s latest contest, the |
1-11 |
highest participation of any state in the country, and more than double the number of Rhode |
1-12 |
Islanders from the last competition. The students competed in timed quizzes to test their aptitude |
1-13 |
in the three most important foundational skills of effective cyber security: networking, operating |
1-14 |
systems, and system administration; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Jessica Cook, a senior at East Providence High School, ranked first among |
1-16 |
her peers within the City, placed fourth in the State Competition, and 274th in the Country; now, |
1-17 |
therefore be it |
1-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-19 |
hereby honors and congratulates Jessica Cook on her accomplishments in the Cyber Foundation |
1-20 |
Competition and wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-2 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Miss Jessica Cook. |
