RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MATTHEW DAVID PEREIRA UPON ACHIEVING | |
|
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge is the pinnacle of achievement within the |
|

Boy Scouts of America. It is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all |
|
1-3 |
the young men who enter scouting; and |
|
1-4 |
WHEREAS, Matthew David Pereira is a remarkable young man worthy of this |
|
1-5 |
prestigious achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and |
|
1-6 |
WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Matthew earned twenty-three |
|
1-7 |
merit badges and served in leadership positions within Troop 1, Richmond, Rhode Island, as well |
|
1-8 |
as exhibited the highest scout spirit; and |
|
1-9 |
WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward |
|
1-10 |
obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout, Matthew David Pereira planned and carried out an extensive |
|
1-11 |
Eagle Scout service project. Matthew organized and supervised his fellow scouts in the clean up |
|
1-12 |
of two historical cemeteries, one of which is the resting place of a Colonel of the Revolutionary |
|
1-13 |
War. Matthew and fellow scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy |
|
1-14 |
carrying out his project for the benefit of the community and visitors; and |
|
1-15 |
WHEREAS, Matthew is currently attending the University of Vermont, pursuing a |
|
1-16 |
degree in microbiology; and |
|
1-17 |
WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to |
|
1-18 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Matthew David Pereira exemplifies |
|
1-19 |
everything an Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, |
|
1-20 |
therefore be it |
|

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|

hereby honors Matthew David Pereira for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle within the |
|
2-3 |
Boy Scouts of America. We would also like to commend Matthew’s family and friends for |
|
2-4 |
giving him a background and values that will stay with him for a lifetime; and be it further |
|
2-5 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island extends our deepest |
|
2-6 |
appreciation to Matthew David Pereira for his untiring service to the community and for setting a |
|
2-7 |
high standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this great state may follow. We |
|
2-8 |
proffer our very best wishes for good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be |
|

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
