S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING BEN CAPUANO UPON AHCIEVING SCOUTING'S

MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Earning an Eagle Scout Badge is the pinnacle of achievement within the

Boy Scouts of America. It is an exceptional distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all

1-3

the young men who enter scouting; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Ben Capuano is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

1-5

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Ben earned the required merit

1-7

badges and served in leadership positions within Troop 2, East Greenwich, including Troop

1-8

Instructor, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward

1-10

obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout, Ben Capuano planned and carried out an extensive Eagle Scout

1-11

service project. Ben and his fellow scouts built shelves for the Providence In-Town Church

1-12

(PICA), an organization serving 71,000 Rhode Islanders in need. This project provided PICA

1-13

with more space to organize and store food, which has enhanced distribution. Ben and fellow

1-14

scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project for the

1-15

benefit of the community and State; and

1-16

     WHEREAS, Ben’s scouting career has been one of the greatest experiences of his life.

1-17

Shortly after joining Boy Scout Troop 2, East Greenwich, in April of 2007, he participated in

1-18

several camping events, including Yawgoog, West Point, New York, and the ultimate 2010

1-19

National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, during the 100th anniversary celebration

1-20

of the Boy Scouts of America. His term as Senior Patrol Leader has ended and he has joined

2-1

Venture Crew 2, which is a group of older scouts, independent from the troop. In February, 2012,

2-2

Ben and seven other scouts will be traveling to the Dominican Republic. The scouts will stay with

2-3

Dominican host families, experiencing the culture and speaking nothing but Spanish. Not

2-4

stopping there, Ben will spend two weeks in Cimarron, New Mexico, at the Philmont Ranch,

2-5

participating on a two-week backpacking trip in the backwoods; and

2-6

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to

2-7

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Ben Capuano exemplifies everything an

2-8

Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, therefore be it

2-9

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-10

hereby honors Ben Capuano for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle within the Boy Scouts

2-11

of America; and be it further

2-12

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island extends our deepest

2-13

appreciation to Ben Capuano for his untiring service to the community and for setting a high

2-14

standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this great state may follow. We proffer

2-15

our very best wishes for good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it

2-16

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-18

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Ben Capuano.
