     WHEREAS, The Eleanor Slater Hospital was recently awarded Accreditation with Full |

Standards Compliance by the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization that |
1-3 |
accredits and certifies health care organizations and programs in the United States; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, The grid score of 97 with no type 1 recommendations represents an |
1-5 |
extraordinary achievement and testament to the skill and dedication of all hospital employees to |
1-6 |
provide the best, safest, and most current state-of-the-art care and services; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, The Eleanor Slater Hospital is a 628-bed hospital operated by the Rhode |
1-8 |
Island Department of Behavioral Health Care, Hospitals, and Developmental Disabilities whose |
1-9 |
patients are treated for acute and long-term medical illnesses and psychiatric disorders; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, The Eleanor Slater Hospital recognizes the severity and chronic nature of |
1-11 |
the illnesses of the patients and provides a treatment environment that emphasizes dignity, |
1-12 |
individuality, and respect; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, The mission of the Joint Commission is to continuously improve the safety |
1-14 |
and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of healthcare accreditation and |
1-15 |
related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, The Joint Commission stimulates health care organizations to meet state-of- |
1-17 |
the-art standards through accreditation and the teaching of quality improvement concepts; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, This accreditation signifies Eleanor Slater Hospital's commitment to safety, |
1-19 |
quality, and quality improvement, which is the cornerstone of Eleanor Slater Hospital's mission of |
2-1 |
providing comprehensive rehabilitative and long-term care services to support patients to achieve |
2-2 |
a high quality of daily living; now, therefore be it |
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-4 |
hereby congratulates the Eleanor Slater Hospital on its superb performance as demonstrated by its |
2-5 |
recent accreditation by the Joint Commission; and be it further |
2-6 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-7 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Administrator of Eleanor Slater Hospital. |
