CONGRATULATING ANDREW BRASSARD ON BEING NAMED A 2010-2011 | |
"DISTINGUISHED TEACHER OF THE YEAR" | |

     WHEREAS, Andrew Brassard, a mathematics teacher with St. Augustine’s School in |

Providence since 1997, inspires his students to have confidence in themselves and their abilities, |
1-3 |
envision the possibilities, and embrace their Catholic faith; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, For his dedication to young people, education, and Catholic values, Mr. |
1-5 |
Brassard was chosen as one of only twelve elementary school teachers from across the United |
1-6 |
States to be named a 2010-2011 “Distinguished Teacher of the Year” by the National Catholic |
1-7 |
Education Association. This recognition is a momentous tribute to an exceptional individual who |
1-8 |
has had a significant and profound impact on the lives of his students; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Combining a genuine love of math and teaching with boundless patience, |
1-10 |
Mr. Brassard has led young people through the intricacies and nuances of difficult algebraic |
1-11 |
equations as easily as he coaches them on the basketball court. By embodying Catholic values |
1-12 |
and faith in all that he does, he encourages his students to become effective and contributing |
1-13 |
members of the community, thereby facilitating their lifelong success; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, The positive impact Mr. Brassard has had on his students’ lives has |
1-15 |
certainly qualified him as one of the “best of the best.” He has distinguished himself not only as a |
1-16 |
tremendous asset to the Catholic school community, but also as a man who is eminently worthy |
1-17 |
of our praise and admiration; now, therefore be it |
1-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-19 |
hereby recognizes and congratulates Andrew Brassard for the prestigious honor of being named a |
1-20 |
2010-2011 “Distinguished Teacher of the Year" by the National Catholic Education Association. |

We furthermore extend our best wishes for his continued success, good health, and happiness; |
