It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

SECTION 1. Section 9-29-18 of the General Laws in Chapter 9-29 entitled "Fees" is |
|

hereby amended to read as follows: |
|

9-29-18. Superior court fees. -- (a) The superior court shall be allowed the following |
|

fees in full to be taxed in the bill of costs in every civil action: |
|
1-5 |
(1) For entry of every civil action, or petition ............ |
|
1-6 |
(2) For every writ of execution ............ $50.00 |
|
1-7 |
(3) For the issuance of every citation ............ $25.00 |
|
1-8 |
(b) In addition to the fees set forth in subsection (a) of this section, a surcharge shall be |
|
1-9 |
placed on all filing fees. |
|
1-10 |
(c) Provided, that |
|
1-11 |
every civil action or petition shall be forwarded to Rhode Island Legal Services. |
|
1-12 |
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

This act would increase the Superior Court filing fee for civil cases from one hundred |
|

sixty dollars ($160) to two hundred dollars ($200) and the portion of that fee that is forwarded to |
|
2-3 |
Rhode Island legal services from ten dollars ($10.00) to twenty dollars ($20.00). |
|
2-4 |
This act would take effect upon passage. |
