PROCLAIMING APRIL 2012 TO BE "DONATE LIFE MONTH" IN RHODE ISLAND | |

WHEREAS, There are more than 112,500 Americans, with more than 4,500 in New |
|

England, who are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant; and |
|
1-3 |
WHEREAS, Over one million life-enhancing transplants performed each year are made |
|
1-4 |
possible by the generous donation of corneas, bone, skin or other tissue; and |
|
1-5 |
WHEREAS, We can all help to save someone’s life and benefit up to 50 recipients by |
|
1-6 |
enrolling as an organ and tissue donor in the Rhode Island Donor Registry when we apply for or |
|
1-7 |
renew our drivers licenses or by registering on-line at www.donatelifenewengland.org; and |
|
1-8 |
WHEREAS, Since 99.8 percent of all Rhode Islanders who register to become a donor do |
|
1-9 |
so at the Division of Motor Vehicles, it is fitting that Rhode Island joins in the national goal of |
|
1-10 |
signing up 50 percent of our driving population to become donors and makes it fast and easy to |
|
1-11 |
save a life through the Division of Motor Vehicles; and |
|
1-12 |
WHEREAS, We pay tribute to organ and tissue donors and their families, whose decision |
|
1-13 |
to Donate Life enables others to receive life-saving organs and tissues for transplant; now, |
|
1-14 |
therefore be it |
|
1-15 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
1-16 |
hereby proclaims April of 2012 to be “Donate Life Month” in Rhode Island, and urges all |
|
1-17 |
citizens of Rhode Island to take cognizance of this event and participate in its observance; and be |
|
1-18 |
it further |
|

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-20 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the New England Organ Bank. |
