RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING STONE HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S | |
ROBOTICS TEAM FOR ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE FIRST LEGO LEAGUE | |

     WHEREAS, The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics program designed to get |
1-2 |
young people excited about science and technology and to teach them valuable life skills in the |
1-3 |
areas of communications, creative thinking, sportsmanship, and problem solving; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Stone Hill Elementary School students, consisting of young people between |
1-5 |
the ages of nine and fourteen, formed a team to research and develop proposals to compete in the |
1-6 |
FLL’s 2011-2012 “Food Factor” challenge; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, The challenge was to improve the quality of life by fighting food |
1-8 |
contamination. After serious research and discussion with an expert from Confreda Farms, |
1-9 |
members of the Stone Hill team decided to modernize the “root cellar” concept utilized by our |
1-10 |
forefathers; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Using environmentally-friendly insulation, the team was able to maintain a |
1-12 |
consistent temperature, which resulted in preservation of their vegetables in a viable state for a |
1-13 |
longer period of time; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, The team was also able to perfect and complete three Robot Game |
1-15 |
challenges, thereby accomplishing its missions of pollution reversal, corn harvest, and fishing; |
1-16 |
and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, In their second year of competing in the FLL Robotics Program, the Stone |
1-18 |
Hill team members not only improved their knowledge, technique, and skill, but also earned our |
1-19 |
recognition and praise for their success and dedication; now, therefore be it |
2-20 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-21 |
hereby congratulates members of the Stone Hill Elementary School Robotics Team for their |
2-22 |
participation and successful completion of three challenges in the FLL Robotics Program. We |
2-23 |
furthermore wish them continued success in all their future competitions and endeavors; and be it |
2-24 |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-26 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Stone Hill Elementary School Robotics |
