CELEBRATING MAY 13TH - 19TH, 2012, AS "NATIONAL NURSING HOME WEEK" IN | |
THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, The citizens of Rhode Island now residing in nursing homes have |

contributed immeasurably to the heritage, success, and growth of our communities; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, Residents of nursing homes include the elderly and young adults with |
1-4 |
physical or mental disabilities who require physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative |
1-5 |
therapies following an accident or illness; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Nursing home residents of any age or ability are often living history and |
1-7 |
always a precious resource; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, The decision to put a loved one into a nursing home is often difficult. The |
1-9 |
hope is to find a tranquil place, operated by caring and well-trained staff members, who assist |
1-10 |
residents in their recuperation or in receiving the type of extra care that their families cannot |
1-11 |
provide; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Guided by this year’s national theme of “Celebrating the Journey,” member |
1-13 |
nursing homes of the American Health Care Association and the Rhode Island Health Care |
1-14 |
Association are holding events across the state in observance of Nursing Home Week; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, This year’s “Nursing Home Week” begins on Mother’s Day, May 13th, and |
1-16 |
concludes on May 19th; now, therefore be it |
1-17 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-18 |
hereby celebrates May 13th – 19th, 2012, as National Nursing Home Week. We urge all the |
1-19 |
citizens of our state to honor elderly and disabled residents of nursing homes by visiting or |
1-20 |
volunteering at a local nursing home in order to endow the residents with community spirit and to |
2-1 |
show appreciation to the staff who care for our beloved citizens on our behalf; and be it further |
2-2 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-3 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Joan Woods, Chair of the Rhode Island Health |
2-4 |
Care Association, and Danielle Sylvestre, Activities Director for Waterview Villa. |
