EXPRESSING SINCERE AND HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE | |
HONORABLE MICHAEL SEPE | |

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the passing |
1-2 |
of Michael Sepe, an individual of talent, intelligence, and integrity who devoted much of his life |
1-3 |
in service to the people of the State of Rhode Island; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the City of Cranston, he was the son of the late |
1-5 |
Giovanni and Rosina (Papa) Sepe. Mr. Sepe was educated in the Cranston schools and was a |
1-6 |
1934 graduate of Cranston High School. He continued his education at the Providence Institute of |
1-7 |
Finance and Engineering, Bryant College, Johnson and Wales Business School, and Providence |
1-8 |
College; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Michael was the devoted husband of the late Mary (Comella) Sepe and of |
1-10 |
the late Nora (Strollo) Alfonso-Sepe. He was the beloved father of Roselyn Sepe DeQuattro and |
1-11 |
her husband, Daniel F. DeQuattro, and of Cranston Democratic City Chair and former City |
1-12 |
Council President Michael J. Sepe and his wife, Valerie. He was also the proud grandfather of |
1-13 |
Michael J., Jr., Steven Sepe, Kristen and Daniel F. DeQuattro, Jr., and Dannah Mallozzi. He was |
1-14 |
also blessed with four great grandchildren, Olivia Sepe, Dylan Beausoleil-Sepe, and Zachary and |
1-15 |
Joshua Mallozzi. He is survived by his dear and faithful friend, Christy Morena, and his extended |
1-16 |
family at Victoria Court Assisted Living; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Michael had a natural feel for politics and an instinctive command of |
1-18 |
governance. A consummate politician, he was a Rhode Island State Representative from the 22nd |
1-19 |
Representative District for 22 years, Chairman of the Democratic City Committee, and a member |
1-20 |
of the Cranston 5th Ward Democratic Club. In 1965, he became Chairman of the House Finance |
2-1 |
Committee and was also elected second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. In |
2-2 |
1964, he served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was also a member of |
2-3 |
the House Steering Committee and Chairman of the Right of Way Commission. A genuinely |
2-4 |
decent man, Michael was dedicated to his constituency and committed to the betterment of his |
2-5 |
community and state; and |
2-6 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Sepe had also been active as a past President of the Orders of the Sons |
2-7 |
of Italy and was a lifetime member of the Tri-State Elks. He was President and member of the |
2-8 |
Franklin D. Roosevelt Club of Cranston, the City Hall Athletic Club, the Assumption Society, |
2-9 |
The Madonna Della Valle Society, a lifetime member of St. Mary's Feast Society, and Honorary |
2-10 |
lifetime member of the Cranston Historical Society; and |
2-11 |
     WHEREAS, Michael was a practicing accountant for over 60 years and lifetime member |
2-12 |
of the Rhode Island Association of Public Accountants. He worked for many years at Lincoln |
2-13 |
Downs and Narragansett Raceway, and was former President of the Mutual Clerks Union at |
2-14 |
Lincoln Downs; and |
2-15 |
     WHEREAS, With the passing of Michael Sepe, Rhode Island has lost one of her finest |
2-16 |
citizens and a true gentleman. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched, and |
2-17 |
although his death has left a tremendous void in his community, Mr. Sepe will live forever in the |
2-18 |
minds and hearts of his family, friends, and the many citizens who knew and loved him; now, |
2-19 |
therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-21 |
hereby offers our sincere condolences on the passing of The Honorable Michael Sepe. We |
2-22 |
furthermore extend our true appreciation for his enduring legacy of service and loyalty; and be it |
2-23 |
further |
2-24 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-25 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Roselyn Sepe DeQuattro and Michael J. Sepe. |
