PROCLAIMING MAY 29, 2012, AS "HOME CARE AND HOSPICE DAY AT THE STATE | |
HOUSE 2012" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, Home care services provide high quality and compassionate health care |

services to those in need, especially at times of community or personal health care crisis; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, Home care is the most preferred method of health care delivery among |
1-4 |
disabled, elderly, and chronically ill individuals eager to live independently in their own homes as |
1-5 |
long as they possibly can; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Home care allows families to stay together and provides for greater health, |
1-7 |
dignity, and comfort in our communities; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Home care is a growing alternative to hospitalization or other institution- |
1-9 |
based forms of health care for acute and chronic illnesses, providing care to millions of |
1-10 |
Americans each year; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Thousands of everyday heroes such as home care nurses, therapists, and |
1-12 |
aides work tirelessly to provide professional help and palliative care and support to millions of |
1-13 |
Americans in need of quality health services; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, Hospice care provides humane and comforting support for terminally ill |
1-15 |
patients and their families, including pain control, palliative medical care, and social, emotional, |
1-16 |
and spiritual services; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Hospice fulfills the basic human needs of feeling comfortable in familiar |
1-18 |
surroundings and of attaining physical and emotional peace during the last stage of life; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, which represents the voice of |
1-20 |
home care and hospice care, has declared that Health Care is Coming Home; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-2 |
hereby recognizes May 29, 2012, as “Home Care and Hospice Day at the State House 2012” in |
2-3 |
Rhode Island; and be it further |
2-4 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-5 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mary Benway, President of the Rhode Island |
2-6 |
Partnership for Home Care. |
