WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island is proud to recognize the Ocean State Theatre |
|

Company as it enters and celebrates its Inaugural Season ensconced in its new home in the City |
|

of Warwick; and |
|

WHEREAS, The Ocean State Theatre Company, a not-for-profit producing entity, was |
|
1-5 |
formed in 2007 to reopen the historic landmark, Theatre-by-the-Sea; and |
|
1-6 |
WHEREAS, According to Ocean State Theatre Company’s mission statement, the |
|
1-7 |
organization focuses its energy on preserving and passing on the tradition of live, professional |
|
1-8 |
theatre, including the American Musical, and pursuing avenues of enrichment and education for |
|
1-9 |
the benefit of the State of Rhode Island and the surrounding region through the theatre arts; and |
|
1-10 |
WHEREAS, The Ocean State Theatre Company has produced numerous plays, musicals, |
|
1-11 |
and children’s performances, entertaining thousands of men, women, and children and delighting |
|
1-12 |
residents and tourists alike; and |
|
1-13 |
WHEREAS, Not-for-profit theaters like the Ocean State Theatre Company contribute |
|
1-14 |
billions of dollars to the national economy, develop our cultural environment, and create both |
|
1-15 |
full-time and part-time jobs for the states in which they are located; now, therefore be it |
|
1-16 |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
1-17 |
Providence Plantations, on behalf of all our citizens, hereby applauds the contributions, hard |
|
1-18 |
work, and dedication that the Ocean State Theatre Company has displayed over the past six years. |
|
1-19 |
We commend the organization for transforming an empty warehouse building into a live theatre |
|
1-20 |
space that provides professional, first-class entertainment for the residents of the City of Warwick |
|
2-1 |
and the State of Rhode Island, and for those that live beyond our state’s borders; and be it further |
|
2-2 |
RESOLVED, That this House hereby congratulates the Ocean State Theatre Company |
|
2-3 |
upon the occasion of the opening of its Inaugural Season and declares January 25, 2013, as |
|
2-4 |
"Ocean State Theatre Day" in the State of Rhode Island. We extend our best wishes for the |
|
2-5 |
Theatre’s continued success; and be it further |
|

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-7 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Ocean State Theatre Company. |
