IN AMENDMENT OF AN ACT ENTITLED, "AN ACT TO INCORPORATE THE RHODE | |

ISLAND SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS," PASSED AT | |

THE MAY SESSION, 1870, AS AMENDED | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

SECTION 1. Section 5 of an act entitled, “An act to incorporate the Rhode Island Society |
|

for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,” passed at the May session, 1870, as amended by an act |
|
1-3 |
passed at the January session, 1871, and by an act passed at the January session, 1890, and by an |
|
1-4 |
act passed at the January session, 1968, is hereby further amended to read as follows: |
|

“Sec. 5. The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hereby |
|
1-6 |
authorized to take, hold, transmit and convey real and personal estate to an amount not exceeding |
|
1-7 |
|
|
1-8 |
from taxation so long as said real and personal estate shall be devoted to the purposes of said |
|
1-9 |
Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; provided, however, that no real |
|
1-10 |
property located within the city of Providence shall be exempt from taxation unless the provisions |
|
1-11 |
of section 44-3-3 of general laws provide a specific exemption for such real property.” |

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

This act would increase the asset limitation previously imposed upon the Rhode Island |
|

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and provide that real property owned by the |
|
2-3 |
society located within the city of Providence shall not be exempt from taxation except by future |
|
2-4 |
statutory exemption. |
|
2-5 |
This act would take effect upon passage. |
