CELEBRATING THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE TOWN OF | |
NARRAGANSETT | |

     WHEREAS, After the Civil War, the Village of Narragansett Pier became more and more |

a seaside resort. In 1881, the Narragansett Pier Improvement Association was formed and efforts |
1-3 |
began to separate the village from the Town of South Kingstown; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, In 1887, a more inclusive approach to combining other villages in South |
1-5 |
Kingstown gained momentum; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, On March 22nd of 1888, the State of Rhode Island and Providence |
1-7 |
Plantations recognized the separation from South Kingstown of the Villages of Narragansett Pier, |
1-8 |
Upper and Lower Point Judith, Boston Neck, and South Ferry into the District of Narragansett, |
1-9 |
which provided the district with many of the privileges of a town; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, The Town of Narragansett is aptly described by the Narragansett Historical |
1-11 |
Society as "a beautiful seaside town with a rich and varied past, a vibrant present, and excellent |
1-12 |
prospects for a wonderful future"; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, It is fitting to join with neighbors and residents in their expression of pride |
1-14 |
and appreciation for the many civic and economic benefits that the community has enjoyed over |
1-15 |
the years because of the growth and prosperity of the Town of Narragansett; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, The Town of Narragansett is celebrating its 125th Anniversary as an |
1-17 |
independent body with myriad entertainment, exhibits, and activities honoring this momentous |
1-18 |
occasion; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-20 |
Providence Plantations hereby extends best wishes to those who serve and live in the Town of |
2-21 |
Narragansett and commemorates the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the town’s founding; |
2-22 |
and be it further |
2-23 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-24 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the President of the Town Council and the |
2-25 |
Town Manager of the Town of Narragansett. |
