RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THOMAS M. SULLIVAN ON ACHIEVING | |
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, Not every boy, nor even every Scout, qualifies for the high rank of Eagle. |

Strenuous physical hurdles, high mental requirements, strong personal character, indomitable |
1-3 |
spirit and a commitment to community service are a rare combination of qualities and |
1-4 |
achievements to find in one person. Thomas M. Sullivan is just such an extraordinary young man |
1-5 |
and his accomplishments are truly worthy and deserving of our recognition and praise; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, During his years in scouting, Thomas has held several leadership positions |
1-7 |
including Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Instructor, and Assistant Patrol Leader. He has |
1-8 |
demonstrated wide-ranging abilities, effective skills and the kind of self-confidence that makes |
1-9 |
him a worthy leader; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Thomas earned a myriad of |
1-11 |
merit badges. In addition, he also earned the Order of the Arrow, which is Scouting’s honor |
1-12 |
society; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Thomas has completed the arduous and demanding requirements necessary |
1-14 |
to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the |
1-15 |
final step toward obtaining the rank of Eagle, Thomas planned, financed, and designed an |
1-16 |
extensive Eagle Scout service project. His Eagle Project was to construct team benches for the |
1-17 |
Cumberland High School and town recreational athletic teams at Tucker Field. Thomas and |
1-18 |
fellow scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project |
1-19 |
for the benefit and enjoyment of the community; and |
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, Thomas is the son of James and Michele Sullivan and is a Senior at |
2-21 |
Cumberland High School. He is also recognized as an honor student and Army ROTC 4-Year |
2-22 |
Scholarship Award winner. In addition to scouting, Thomas is a member of the Cumberland High |
2-23 |
School Variety Show and St. John Vianney Catholic Youth Group and is a volunteer at Historic |
2-24 |
Metcalf-Franklin Farm. He is the Captain of the Cross Country & Indoor Track Northern |
2-25 |
Division Championship Teams; and |
2-26 |
     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth, and to |
2-27 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Thomas M. Sullivan is a remarkable young |
2-28 |
man who exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will |
2-29 |
grow to be; now, therefore be it |
2-30 |
      RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-31 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Thomas M. Sullivan for his service to the community and |
2-32 |
for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this great state may |
2-33 |
follow. We congratulate him for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle, and extend our very |
2-34 |
best wishes for good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further |
2-35 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-36 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Thomas M. Sullivan. |
