RELATING TO TAXATION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 44-5 of the General Laws entitled "Levy and Assessment of Local

Taxes" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     44-5-84. Town of East Greenwich - Exemption for elderly, disabled, and military

1-4

service. – (a) The town council of the town of East Greenwich is authorized to fix the amount, if

1-5

any, of a real estate exemption for East Greenwich residents based upon age, disability, or

1-6

military service, including military service of a child of the resident. Exemptions may be tiered

1-7

based upon age.

     (b) Any exemption shall only apply to residential property owned and occupied by the

1-9

applicant.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
