CONGRATULATING DECLAN P. SMITH ON RECEIVING THE DIANNE O'REILLY

SCHOLARSHIP

     WHEREAS, It is fitting that this House recognizes those students who, through their

talents and unflagging commitment to excellence, have exalted themselves in both academia and

1-3

in their communities; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Providence and a graduate of Immaculate Conception

1-5

Catholic Regional School, Declan Smith has already distinguished himself with a profundity of

1-6

honors and accomplishments over the course of his short lifetime; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, By achieving the highest score on Bishop Hendricken High School’s

1-8

entrance exam, Declan earned the Dianne O'Reilly Scholarship, an accomplishment that will

1-9

provide a four-year fully-paid scholarship to Bishop Hendricken High School; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, A genuine triple threat, Declan is not only brilliant and handsome, he is

1-11

athletically inclined. During his middle school years, he played both baseball and basketball for

1-12

three years; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Declan’s intellectual aptitude, combined with his ambition and persistence,

1-14

has yielded accomplishments that have brought great pride to his parents, Andrew and Amy

1-15

Smith, who incidentally met while serving as Legislative Aides at the State House, his siblings,

1-16

Cormac, Owen, and Kieran, and his grandparents, former Speaker of the House, The Honorable

1-17

Matthew J. Smith and his wife, Claire, and his maternal grandparents, Steven Daniels, former

1-18

member of the Providence Board of Licenses, and his wife, Irene; and

1-19

     WHEREAS, There are always young people who rise above the rest, who dare to dream,

1-20

and are willing to endeavor to make those dreams become reality. Declan Smith is just such an

2-1

exceptional young man, and he is truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be

2-2

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-4

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and applauds Declan P. Smith on receiving the

2-5

Dianne O’Reilly Scholarship to Bishop Hendricken High School. The entire membership extends

2-6

best wishes for his continued success, good health, and much happiness; and be it further

2-7

      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Declan Smith.
