CONGRATULATING NIDIA KARBONIK ON HER SELECTION AS THE 2013 RHODE | |
ISLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR | |

     WHEREAS, It is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to |

recognize outstanding school leaders who have devoted their careers to providing the highest |
1-5 |
quality education for our students; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Nidia Karbonik, Principal of Ashton Elementary School located in |
1-7 |
Cumberland, is one such estimable educator who has distinguished herself as a professional of the |
1-8 |
highest caliber; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Principal Karbonik has recently been selected as the Rhode Island |
1-10 |
Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island |
1-11 |
Association of School Principals, an honor that recognizes the positive influence she has had on |
1-12 |
so many young lives; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, The Principal of the Year program honors school principals like Nidia |
1-14 |
Karbonik who place student learning at the center, set high expectations for student development, |
1-15 |
oversee standards-based teaching and learning, utilize data in making decisions, and engage the |
1-16 |
community in the shared responsibility for student achievement; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Principal Karbonik received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical |
1-18 |
Education from Rhode Island College, where she also received her Masters degree in Bilingual |
1-19 |
Education and Elementary and Secondary Administration. She taught for a number of years, then |
1-20 |
served as an elementary school assistant principal in the Providence School Department before |
2-1 |
beginning her tenure as Principal of Ashton Elementary School in 2001. During her twelve years |
2-2 |
as Principal, she has distinguished herself as an inspiring educational leader and trusted |
2-3 |
colleague; now, therefore be it |
2-4 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-5 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Ms. Nidia Karbonik on her selection as the 2013 |
2-6 |
Elementary School Principal of the Year. We furthermore honor and thank her for her dedicated |
2-7 |
service to Ashton Elementary School. We wish her much continued success in all her future |
2-8 |
endeavors; and be it further |
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-10 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Principal Nidia Karbonik. |
