HONORING TIMOTHY RYAN ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE | |
WESTERLY SUN AND DESIGNATING MARCH 22ND OF 2013 TO BE "TIM RYAN DAY" | |
IN THE TOWN OF WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND | |

     WHEREAS, Tim Ryan, president and publisher of The Westerly Sun, president of Sun |

Publishing, executive vice-president of The Sun’s parent company, the Record-Journal Publishing |

Company, and publisher of The Sun’s weekly newspapers that include The Charlestown Press, |
1-4 |
The Mystic River Press, and The Wood River Press, will retire after thirty-five years of informing |
1-5 |
and educating the people of Rhode Island in his various journalistic capacities; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Quinnipiac College with a bachelor’s |
1-7 |
degree in marketing provided the educational background to pursue his future career goals, but |
1-8 |
being a paper boy as a young man set Tim Ryan on his life’s path; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, In 1977, Mr. Ryan was hired as a district manager in the circulation |
1-10 |
department at the Record-Journal Publishing Company. With hard work and immense talent, he |
1-11 |
rose through the ranks, becoming a circulation director in 1987 and a senior vice president in |
1-12 |
1999. In 2004, he was named president and publisher of Sun Publishing; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, During Mr. Ryan’s publishing tenure, The Record-Journal Publishing |
1-14 |
Company has flourished, expanding from two publications to fifteen, and evolving into a |
1-15 |
competitive and cutting edge business; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Within the community, Mr. Ryan has served on the boards of the Ocean |
1-17 |
Community YMCA and the Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as |
1-18 |
volunteered for various groups and events throughout the town; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Married to the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, Kim, for the |
1-20 |
past thirty-six years, Mr. Ryan enjoys spending time with family which also includes his two |
2-1 |
daughters and their husbands, and his four beautiful grandchildren; and |
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Turning the page on a new chapter of his life, Mr. Ryan hopes to spend even |
2-3 |
more time appreciating his family and enjoying all the scenery and quality of life that Westerly |
2-4 |
has to offer; now, therefore be it |
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-6 |
hereby congratulates Tim Ryan on the occasion of his retirement from The Westerly Sun and the |
2-7 |
Record-Journal Publishing Company, and thanks him on behalf of all Rhode Islanders for his |
2-8 |
eloquent and informative journalism; and be it further |
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby designates Friday, March 22, 2013, to be “Tim |
2-10 |
Ryan Day” in the Town of Westerly. We furthermore commend Mr. Ryan for his |
2-11 |
accomplishments, and wish him the very best health and continued success in all his future |
2-12 |
endeavors; and be it further |
2-13 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-14 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Tim Ryan. |
