A N A C T

IN AMENDMENT OF AN ACT ENTITLED "AN ACT TO INCORPORATE THE RHODE

ISLAND SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS," PASSED AT

THE MAY SESSION, 1870, AS AMENDED

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 5 of an act entitled, "An act to incorporate the Rhode Island Society

for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals," passed at the May session, 1870, as amended by an act

passed at the January session 1871, and by an act passed at the January session, 1890, and by an

act passed at the January session, 1968, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

     "Section 5. The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals is hereby

authorized to take, hold, transmit and convey real and personal estate to an amount not exceeding

1-7

seven hundred fifty thousand dollars which shall be exempt from taxation so long as said real and

personal estate shall be devoted to the purposes of said Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of

1-9

Cruelty to Animals; provided, however, that no real property located in the city of Providence

1-10

shall be exempt from taxation unless the provisions of Section 44-3-3 of the Rhode Island general

1-11

laws provide a specific exemption for such property."

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
