It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Section 12-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 12-7 entitled "Arrest" is |

hereby amended to read as follows: |

     12-7-19. |

pursuit by officers from cities or towns. -- Any member of a duly organized municipal peace |
1-5 |
unit of another city or town of the state who enters any city or town in close pursuit and continues |
1-6 |
within any city or town in such close pursuit of a person in order to |
1-7 |
him or her on the ground that he or she has violated the motor vehicle code in the other city or |
1-8 |
town shall have the same authority |

organized municipal peace unit of |

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

     This act would provide that any municipal police officer who enters another city or town |

in close pursuit of a person in order to stop and briefly detain that person for violations of the |
2-3 |
motor vehicle code of the officer's municipality shall have the same authority as members of a |
2-4 |
duly organized municipal peace unit of the city or town entered. |
2-5 |
     This act would take effect upon passage. |
