RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING JONATHAN F. MASSE ON ACHIEVING | |
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, Not every boy, nor even every Scout, qualifies for the high rank of Eagle. |

Strenuous physical hurdles, high mental requirements, strong personal character, indomitable |
1-3 |
spirit and a commitment to community service are a rare combination of qualities and |
1-4 |
achievements to find in one person. Jonathan F. Masse is just such an extraordinary young man |
1-5 |
and his accomplishments are truly worthy and deserving of our recognition and praise; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Jonathan is a member of Troop 1, Kingston, Rhode Island. With |
1-7 |
perseverance and determination, he has attained the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle, by |
1-8 |
meeting all the extensive requirements; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, During his years in scouting, Jonathan has demonstrated wide-ranging |
1-10 |
abilities making him a worthy leader. Jonathan exhibited high self-confidence and effective skills |
1-11 |
while participating in a grueling 52-mile hike across the Appalachian Trail; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Learning important lifelong skills and values, Eagle Scout Jonathan Masse |
1-13 |
earned several merit badges. Jonathan also earned several special awards, such as the Order of the |
1-14 |
Arrow, which is Scouting’s honor society, and four Roman Catholic Boy Scouts awards; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years, Jonathan completed the final step |
1-16 |
toward obtaining the rank of Eagle by planning and carrying out an extensive Eagle service |
1-17 |
project. Jonathan refurbished a historic Wakefield landmark, the Rose Hill Road Cemetery. |
1-18 |
Jonathan cleared the overgrown brush, photographed the tombstones, and provided global |
1-19 |
positioning information that was made accessible on the Historical Society website; and |
2-20 |
      WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle requires considerable perseverance and is |
2-21 |
considered to be the pinnacle of achievement with the Boy Scouts of America. It is an exceptional |
2-22 |
distinction achieved by fewer than five percent of all the young men who enter scouting; and |
2-23 |
      WHEREAS, Jonathan is the son of Leo J. Masse and Jennifer Nappi, and is currently in |
2-24 |
his Junior year at South Kingstown High School, where he is a member of the wrestling team. |

Jonathan also has been a committed volunteer Den Chief for the Aquapaug Cub Scouts Pack |
2-26 |
Camp; and |
2-27 |
     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth, and to |
2-28 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Jonathan F. Masse is a remarkable young |
2-29 |
man who exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will |
2-30 |
grow to be; now, therefore be it |
2-31 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-32 |
hereby honors Jonathan F. Masse for his service to the community and for setting a high standard |
2-33 |
of commitment and dedication by which the youth of this great state may follow. We congratulate |
2-34 |
him for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle, and extend our very best wishes for good |
2-35 |
health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further |
2-36 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-37 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jonathan F. Masse. |
