RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- APPLICABILITY OF TRAFFIC | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Section 31-12-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-12 entitled |

"Applicability of Traffic Regulations" is hereby amended to read as follows: |

     31-12-7. Privileges allowed emergency vehicles. -- The driver of an authorized |
1-4 |
emergency vehicle may: |
1-5 |
      (1) Park or stand, irrespective of the provisions of any law; |
1-6 |
      (2) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be |
1-7 |
necessary for safe operation; |
1-8 |
      (3) Exceed the prima facie speed limits so long as he or she does not endanger life or |
1-9 |
property; |
1-10 |
      (4) Disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified |
1-11 |
directions. |
1-12 |
     (5) Be exempted from wearing a seatbelt. |
1-13 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
